On June 25 and 30, 2020, virtual workshops were held with 27 people who work in the regional offices of the National Department of Employment of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare of El Salvador. The objective was to discuss the general aspects of the International Integrity System for Recruitment (IRIS) and motivate participants to use them in their work.

IRIS is a global initiative of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), designed to promote the ethical recruitment of migrants. IRIS's vision is that recruitment should be ethical and fair for both migrant workers and recruiting and employing companies.

"The workshop was very innovative. Given the current situation, it is an optimal way in which to learn, and it will help us provide better service not only to companies that place people in jobs, but also execute ethical work in companies that make use of public employment services, and help job seekers avoid scams," said Frank Centeno, Coordinator of Labor Intermediation in the Departmental Office of Sonsonate.

Regarding how to apply the knowledge acquired, Centeno added that "in particular we have a port area and this knowledge will be of great help because we can guide people who work in companies in the area and also guide a local company that makes arrangements with cruise ships and other various services, so that they can obtain certification and thus have ethical recruitment processes”.

If you want to know more about IRIS you can access their website. You can also take the International Integrity System for Recruitment Introduction course on our e-learning platform E-Campus. The course is free and lasts about one hour. Click here for more information.
