As of Thursday August 29, educational centers in Costa Rica have an “Action protocol for the restoration of rights and access to the Costa Rican education system for victims and survivors of the crime of human trafficking and their dependents.”

IOM organizes the V exchange of the technical network of cross-border articulation on migration between Guatemala and Honduras

 

Puerto Cortés (Honduras). The International Organization for Migration (IOM) facilitated the Fifth Exchange of the Guatemalan-Honduras Cross-Border Coordination Network, which seeks to guarantee an adequate response to the migration processes between the two Central American countries.

Number of migrant children in Mexico increased by 131% in 2019, IOM builds government capacities for comprehensive assistance

According to the National Migration Institute of Mexico, there was a 131% increase in number of migrant children and adolescents in the country in the first half of 2019, as compared to the same period in 2018. Between January and June of 2019, 33 thousand of the people who appeared before the Mexican migration authority were minors, and 26% (8,500) were unaccompanied by an adult. Additionally, 21,900 adolescents were deported or returned to their countries through assisted return from Mexico during the same period.

The Inter-institutional Commission against Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking in Persons (CICESCT), decentralized from the Ministry of Human Rights (SEDH), in synergy with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), promotes actions aimed at providing comprehensive care for victims and combating the crime of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants.

The Office of the Prosecutor for the Defense of Human Rights (PDDH) of El Salvador gains trainers in Migrant Protection

 

San Salvador, El Salvador. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) concluded the Trainer of Trainers Course on Promotion of Human Rights and Identification of the Needs for Assistance and Protection of Migrants, in which approximately 50 officials from the Office of the Prosecutor for the Defense of Human Rights (PDDH) participated.

IOM improves training on migration issues in Belize in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Galen University

 

Belize—Two activities during the month of August increased the understanding of specialized audiences in Belize of migration issues. The first was a workshop on migration and communication for development, given to instructors from the communities of Corozal and San Ignacio as part of the Professional Development Week held annually by the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, and Culture.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) are leading the regional workshop “Governance of Labor Migration: Fair Hiring and Prevention of Fraudulent Practices”. The event, which was inaugurated today in Guatemala City and will end on Thursday, September 5, takes place within the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM).

Regional mechanisms strengthen actions to include and tend to migrants in crisis situations

In following with the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM) and the Central American Policy for Comprehensive Disaster Risk Reduction (PCGIR), authorities representing said conference and other international organizations participated last August 26th on a regional workshop: “The key role of information coordination and management for tending to migrants in disaster situations”. The activity was designed to strengthen the inclusion and attention to migrants in such cases.
