Honduras: towards a comprehensive migration policy

Tegucigalpa. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) organized the meeting Towards the creation of a comprehensive migration policy, in which national and international experts met in the capital of Honduras as a starting point for developing a National Migration Policy that address immigrant, emigrant, migrant in transit, and returnee flows.

IOM and its partners support efforts for improving labor migration management in Mesoamerica and the Caribbean

During the month of September, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and its partners in different countries of the region met with various actors with the goal of discussing labor migration management for the benefit of all sectors.

In conjunction with the Central American Federation of Agricultural and Agro-industrial Chambers (FECAGRO), IOM has begun developing a proposal to create a regional coordination mechanism for labor migration management in the agricultural sector in Central America and the Dominican Republic.

IOM builds capacities of state and consular personnel in Mexico for migration governance and crisis management

Mexico. This September, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) provided support for two workshops in Mexico, with the objective of training personnel to better address the needs of the migrant population.

One was a workshop on migration governance in conjunction with the Coordination of State Migrant Assistance Offices (CONOFAM), which had the objective of strengthening its offices, known as OFAM. Forty representatives of CONOFAM participated from various states and public institutions at the federal level.

Belize City. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is supporting government efforts to improve access to information about migration. Additionally, it is continuing its activities in Belize to prevent irregular migration and the risks associated with it, such as human trafficking.

San Salvador, El Salvador. – The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in coordination with over 25 local partners, launched the Communication for Development campaign Conectá con tu futuro [Connect with your future], which has the primary goal of providing trustworthy information on regular migration and local opportunities to young people in the municipality of Ahuachapán.

IOM strengthens consulate capacities to protect migrants during emergencies

 

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) developed several training sessions on how to provide adequate assistance to migrants in emergency contexts.

The workshops, tailored to consular staffs accredited in the Honduran capitals and the Permanent Contingency Comission (COPECO) personnel, were created in the context of the Migrants in Countries in Crisis (MICIC) initiative.

San Salvador, El Salvador. - The International Organization for Migration (IOM), together with the General Secretariat of the Central American Integration System (SG-SICA) and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) supports the fight against human trafficking and smuggling of migrants through Operation ITZEL, in which 10 countries in the region participate.

Ministry of Public Education of Costa Rica presents Protocol for the restoration of the educational rights of victims of human trafficking

 

As of Thursday August 29, educational centers in Costa Rica have an “Action protocol for the restoration of rights and access to the Costa Rican education system for victims and survivors of the crime of human trafficking and their dependents.”

IOM organizes the V exchange of the technical network of cross-border articulation on migration between Guatemala and Honduras

 

Puerto Cortés (Honduras). The International Organization for Migration (IOM) facilitated the Fifth Exchange of the Guatemalan-Honduras Cross-Border Coordination Network, which seeks to guarantee an adequate response to the migration processes between the two Central American countries.
