The Office of the Prosecutor for the Defense of Human Rights (PDDH) of El Salvador gains trainers in Migrant Protection

 

San Salvador, El Salvador. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) concluded the Trainer of Trainers Course on Promotion of Human Rights and Identification of the Needs for Assistance and Protection of Migrants, in which approximately 50 officials from the Office of the Prosecutor for the Defense of Human Rights (PDDH) participated.

IOM improves training on migration issues in Belize in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Galen University

 

Belize—Two activities during the month of August increased the understanding of specialized audiences in Belize of migration issues. The first was a workshop on migration and communication for development, given to instructors from the communities of Corozal and San Ignacio as part of the Professional Development Week held annually by the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, and Culture.

IOM and ILO hold workshop on fair and ethical hiring of migrant workers

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) are leading the regional workshop “Governance of Labor Migration: Fair Hiring and Prevention of Fraudulent Practices”. The event, which was inaugurated today in Guatemala City and will end on Thursday, September 5, takes place within the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM).

Regional mechanisms strengthen actions to include and tend to migrants in crisis situations

In following with the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM) and the Central American Policy for Comprehensive Disaster Risk Reduction (PCGIR), authorities representing said conference and other international organizations participated last August 26th on a regional workshop: “The key role of information coordination and management for tending to migrants in disaster situations”. The activity was designed to strengthen the inclusion and attention to migrants in such cases.

IOM presents study on migration and emergencies in Central America

 

On August 21, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) presented the study “Migrants in Risk Reduction and Emergency Response in Central America,” as part of the Regional Workshop: The Key Role of Coordination and Information Management in Assisting Migrants in Disaster Situations, which was organized with CEPREDENAC, the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM), and OCAM.

IOM publishes the first data from 2019 on the profile of extra-regional migrants in Panama

 

Los Planes, Panama. In the first six months of 2019, Panama has received 34% more migrants from South America than it received in all of 2018. Every day, an average of 120 people arrive at the Temporary Humanitarian Aid Station (ETAH) located on the border between Costa Rica and Panama. In this context, IOM carried out a second round of surveys to track the flows of extra-regional migrants, using the DTM (Displacement Tracking Matrix) methodology.

These people play an important role in the labor market and contribute to the economies and societies of both their countries of origin and destination. They promote development by creating new businesses and strengthen ties between their country of origin and their country of destination through the transfer of technology and skills.
