IOM strengthens digital commerce capacities for the small business sector of Desamparados

 

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Costa Rica, in coordination with the Municipality of Desamparados and the Institute for Municipal Promotion and Consulting (IFAM), conducted two virtual lectures on Digital Commerce to train entrepreneurs of this canton, and promote their adaptation to the challenges posed by the pandemic.

This event strengthened the capacities of police personnel, and more specifically their role in migrant children protection processes with a focus on rights, and also explained the main changes regarding legislative reforms on children's issues.

Mexico joins the governments that promote orderly, safe and dignified migration using the Migration Governance Indicators (MGI)

 

Mexico City - Mexico joined the 84 countries and 30 local authorities in the world that have begun to promote orderly, safe and responsible migration using the Migration Governance Indicators (MGI), created in 2015 by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to meet target 10.7 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Key staff of DGME El Salvador completed training on migration and gender with IOM

In order to sensitize public officials who work with migrant women, IOM El Salvador developed a specialized course on migration and gender. Throughout 5 face-to-face sessions, 17 civil servants from the DGME learned about the particularities of the migration experience according to gender and updated their knowledge of the protocol for assisting national and foreign women victims of gender-based violence.

IOM promotes binational dialogue between Dominican and Haitian authorities through cross-border roundtables

On Thursday, February 25, a first binational meeting was held at the Interagency Coordinated Management Post of Carrizal in the municipality of Comendador (Elías Piña province) between the civil and military authorities of the neighboring towns of Elias Piña and Belladere, convened by the members of the Comendador-Belladere Cross-Border Dialogue Table (MDTs) to promote a work plan and encourage dialogue between authorities.

In order to guarantee the rights of migrant and national workers, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) seek to position "Ethical Recruitment for Employment" in Honduras, as a strategic element in the processes of pre-selection and selection of human resources with the active participation of the actors involved.

IOM Mexico strengthens skills for counseling and labour inclusion of migrants

The Western Hemisphere Program team in Mexico began 2021 by strengthening the skills of key actors in the integration of migrants into Mexican society. To this end, strategic training activities were implemented with government counterparts and staff of the Information Hubs on Migration.

Costa Rica: IOM promotes the integration of migrants in emergencies during the coffee harvest in Frailes, Desamparados

 

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) made an important donation of equipment and materials for immediate response to emergencies to the Community Emergency Committee of Frailes, in the canton of Desamparados, San José. It also gave a talk to raise awareness about the integral approach in emergency situations and the importance of including the migrant population in emergency preparedness and response.

Report analyzes the contribution of Guatemalan seasonal migrant workers to the development of southern Mexico

A study focused on foreign workers currently in southern Mexico revealed the main vulnerabilities and opportunities provided for Mexico's economic growth by thousands of migrants of Guatemalan origin who, for decades, have been working seasonally on Mexico's southern border.
