IOM strengthens consulate capacities to protect migrants during emergencies

 

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) developed several training sessions on how to provide adequate assistance to migrants in emergency contexts.

The workshops, tailored to consular staffs accredited in the Honduran capitals and the Permanent Contingency Comission (COPECO) personnel, were created in the context of the Migrants in Countries in Crisis (MICIC) initiative.

San Salvador, El Salvador. - The International Organization for Migration (IOM), together with the General Secretariat of the Central American Integration System (SG-SICA) and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) supports the fight against human trafficking and smuggling of migrants through Operation ITZEL, in which 10 countries in the region participate.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) are leading the regional workshop “Governance of Labor Migration: Fair Hiring and Prevention of Fraudulent Practices”. The event, which was inaugurated today in Guatemala City and will end on Thursday, September 5, takes place within the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM).

Regional mechanisms strengthen actions to include and tend to migrants in crisis situations

In following with the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM) and the Central American Policy for Comprehensive Disaster Risk Reduction (PCGIR), authorities representing said conference and other international organizations participated last August 26th on a regional workshop: “The key role of information coordination and management for tending to migrants in disaster situations”. The activity was designed to strengthen the inclusion and attention to migrants in such cases.

On August 21, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) presented the study “Migrants in Risk Reduction and Emergency Response in Central America,” as part of the Regional Workshop: The Key Role of Coordination and Information Management in Assisting Migrants in Disaster Situations, which was organized with CEPREDENAC, the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM), and OCAM.

Puerto Cortés (Honduras), July 30, 2019- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) facilitated the 5th Exchange of the Cross-border Migration Coordination Network on Guatemala-Honduras, which seeks to improve cooperation between both countries on migration management related issues.

Mexico and Guatemala exchange best practices regarding labor migration

 

Mexico City - Within the framework of the Cooperation Agreement on Labor signed by Mexico and Guatemala in 2018, a Workshop on Exchanging Best Practices for Labor Migration was held July 3 by the Mexican Secretariat of External Relations, with support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Labor Organization (ILO).

The National Migration Institute and the Center of Emergency Operations of the Dominican Republic are currently working to create an Inter-Institutional Contingency Plan for Massive Migration Flows, with technical and financial support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
