Mexico City - Within the framework of the Cooperation Agreement on Labor signed by Mexico and Guatemala in 2018, a Workshop on Exchanging Best Practices for Labor Migration was held July 3 by the Mexican Secretariat of External Relations, with support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Labor Organization (ILO).

From Mexico, officials from the Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare, the National Migration Institute, and the Secretariat of External Relations participated in the exchange. Participants from Guatemala included officials from the Ministries of External Relations and Labor and Social Welfare.

The exchange of best practices was an opportunity to analyze the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP) between Mexico and Canada, a cooperation framework which has ensured a migration cycle of workers in a safe, orderly, and regular fashion for over four decades.

Through this activity, Mexico and Guatemala are re-committing themselves to binational initiatives to design and execute public policies to benefit workers from both countries, promoting dignified and productive employment which fully respects their human and labor rights.
